Meeting Dates : 10/7/2008 Time : 10:00 PM-12:00 PM No of Seminars : 1 Facilitator : Barbara Jaquay | Join |
|
| Funky art has been around for many years in our cities and rural communities. But, in the past 10 years there seems to be a growing trend to use funky art, sometimes to attract tourists and residents to return to the city, thus giving an economic benefit to that city. An historic context is usually present with the funky art, thus giving another benefit of raising historic awareness. Charities benefit when the art is auctioned. Rural areas may use the funky art to attract tourists, as in the case of Southwest Colorado which used carvings of animals and firefighters affected by a devastating fire. Funky art along our highways can be indicative of a cultural or economic aspect of the area. This presentation will examine the geographic-historic aspects of funky art appearing along the highways and city streets of America and its seemingly growing popularity. A few funky art examples will be included from other countries as a comparative study. This class was offered during the Summer term but had to be canceled due to illness, and so if you were away during the summer months you now have a chance to attend this interesting new class of returning RISE presenter, Barbara Jaquay. |

It took nearly 30 years before these scrolls became public. Come and learn more about this library and its connection to Christianity from a top authority on the subject, Clare Goldsberry, who comes to us from the Phoenix Branch of the Theosophical Society as a returning presenter. |
